We take immediate action when inappropriate activities occur at NOWrecovery.com.
This network has been designed and created with the explicit intention of assisting its members in their rehabilitative efforts. Please use the features that are available to you to create helpful and responsible content.
This document outlines the types of activity that are considered inappropriate/abusive for this network, and the actions we may take to safeguard legitimate members against them. Please note that any inappropriate activity as noted below, as well as offending members, will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
Splogging
Wikipedia says… “A spam blog, sometimes referred to by the neologism splog, is a blog which the author uses to promote affiliated websites, to increase the search engine rankings of associated sites or to simply sell links/ads. [...] Spam blogs are usually a type of scraper site, where content is often either inauthentic text or merely stolen from other websites. These blogs usually contain a high number of links to sites associated with the splog creator which are often disreputable or otherwise useless websites.”
Splogging is simply not tolerated at NOWrecovery.com. Users who sign up to this network solely to create blog articles stuffed with links to other sites are not tolerated either. When we are alerted to this type of activity, we take the following immediate action:
If the offending member’s membership is at the “Free” level (i.e.: no subscription):
- The member’s blog and account are terminated without notice.
- All media uploaded by the offending member is deleted.
- Any groups of which the offending member is admin or mod are notified so they may reassign those tasks.
- The user’s IP address is logged and banned from further access.
- The user’s email domain is logged and banned from further access (except in cases where this may be detrimental to legitimate users).
If the offending member has subscribed to any plan that includes the Blogs package:
- The splog blog(s) is(are) terminated without notice.
- The member’s paid subscription (Blogs, Groups and Media packages included) is suspended for a period of 30 days with no refund.
- Access to all premium content (if any) is also revoked for the same 30-day period.
- If splogging activity continues on any blog not terminated, or resumes once the member’s subscription has been reactivated, we take the same action as when the offending member’s membership is at the “Free” level (see above) with no refunds.
Threats/Hate Messages/Racism
Three different degrees and expressions of fear, all resulting from the same ignorance. That fear and ignorance notwithstanding, threats, hate messages and racist content are not tolerated at NOWrecovery.com. Members who resort to such activity will receive one warning, and one warning only. If the activity continues, they will also face the same consequences as sploggers (see above).
Moreover, depending on the degree, nature or specificity of such activity (such as naming an individual in a threat of violence), the appropriate authorities will be notified, and all pertinent and personally identifying information will be shared with those authorities.
Spamming
Spam, under any guise (see Wikipedia articles here and here for more) is not tolerated at NOWrecovery.com. Members who resort to spam in blog comments, activity stream replies, forum topics, personal messages, etc., will receive one warning, and one warning only. If the activity continues, they will face the same consequences as sploggers (see above). Members are encouraged to report spam to the network admin if and when it is noticed.
Note: Including links to legitimate and helpful websites, blogs, forums, articles, etc, is of course encouraged. Also, if you build an e-commerce blog in the NOWrecovery.com network, linking to it in blog comments, activity stream replies, forum topics, personal messages, etc. is acceptable. But be careful: if you resort to simply soliciting other members (i.e. – fluff postings/promotional messages to increase traffic to your blog) without any useful, helpful or relevant content in comments, etc, read the previous paragraph again.
Pornography
Pornographic content is not tolerated at NOWrecovery.com. If pornography is the main subject matter of a member’s blog, the offending member will face the same immediate consequences as that of sploggers (see above).
If such content is found in blog comments, activity stream replies, forum topics, personal messages, etc., the offending member will receive one warning, and one warning only. If the activity continues, they will face the same consequences as sploggers (see above). Members are encouraged to report pornographic content to the network admin if and when it is noticed.
Promotion of Gambling and/or Alcohol/Drug Use
Given the context and the mission of NOWrecovery.com, such promotional activities are not tolerated. Members who resort to such activity will face the same consequences as those who resort to pornography. Members are encouraged to report such activity to the network admin if and when it is noticed.
