Addiction. It’s a scary word. Recovery can be even more fearsome… especially when you think you’re all alone. When you’re on the road to recovery from addiction, nothing beats the support and guidance you can get from those who have traveled it before you.
Whether you’ve just started on your path or have been treading it for years, there can be pitfalls and challenges… anywhere, and at any time. In moments like those, what options are available to you? The ones you know, of course. Increase your knowledge of what you can do – and learn how to do it – and you decrease the frequency and intensity of feelings of discouragement or despair. This can only result in a reduced risk of relapse, and a greater potential for joy in your life.
That is what this section of the site is all about. To finally understand why you developed addictive tendencies and what you can do about it. To accomplish that, we’re going to get right down to the nitty-gritty: you, not the substance. And, by the way, you won’t find any information on the substances themselves in this section; you can get as much as you want on other sites.
Some of the most important steps in addiction recovery have nothing to do with the drink or the drug, or with stopping or quitting for that matter. That’s actually the easy part: it’s your choice to make. What’s essential in long-term rehabilitation is understanding why you started using in the first place, and the benefits you have associated with continued use. Only then will you be able to effectively resolve what brought you to substance use.
